Positive Behaviour Support for Education Staff

Practical, school-based PBS training designed specifically for Teaching Assistants, Education Assistants, and school support staff. Learn why behaviour happens — and what to do about it.

You're the one who often is supporting when a student is in crisis

When a child is escalating, when the classroom has stopped, when the others look to you for help — you're the one who steps in.

The problem isn't you. It's that nobody trained you for this.

You may have been given a behaviour management handbook, sat through a half-day inset, or watched a few videos. But you may not know why behaviour happens.

Meet Dr. Amanda Broadway, BCBA

I've spent over 20 years in schools — as a teacher, a coordinator, a director, and now as a BCBA. And I built this course because I've seen what happens when Education Assistants are asked to do one of the hardest jobs in education with almost no formal training.

Based in Ladysmith, BC (Vancouver Island), Canada

I started my career as a high school math and science teacher. I know what it feels like to stand in front of a classroom and carry the weight of 30 students who need you fully present. I moved into inclusive education and spent years as an Inclusive Support Coordinator and Director of Student Support, working directly with Education Assistants, developing behaviour plans, and solving the real challenges of inclusion in schools.

Today, I am a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA), a trained PBIS coach, and a university instructor teaching pre-service Education Assistants and teachers at Vancouver Island University. I serve as the Associate Director of Learning for independent schools in British Columbia, and I completed my PhD at Liberty University in 2024. My research focused on PBIS implementation for Indigenous students, with an emphasis on equitable and culturally responsive practice in school settings.

Over the course of my career, I have trained hundreds of Education Assistants and supported school teams in building stronger systems for student success. I have been the person called when a student is in crisis, the one developing support plans late into the evening, and the trainer helping staff connect evidence-based practice to the realities of the classroom.

My work is grounded in Positive Behavioural Interventions and Supports because schools need more than theory. They need practical systems, shared language, and strategies that hold up in real classrooms with real students. PBIS gives educators and support staff a structure for building positive, consistent, and inclusive environments where students and teams are better supported.

I am committed to helping schools, educators, and support staff build confidence in their practice and strengthen outcomes for students through meaningful, sustainable PBIS implementation.

P.B.S. FAQs

Do I need any prerequisites?

No. This course is designed for education staff at any experience level. No prior training in behaviour analysis is required.

Will this help me with RBT certification?

No. This is a separate product focused on Positive Behaviour Support skills for school staff. If you're interested in RBT certification, please see our School-Based RBT course.

I'm in the UK/Australia/NZ — is this relevant to me?

Absolutely. The course content is designed to be relevant across English-speaking school systems. Examples and strategies are applicable to UK, Australian, New Zealand, and North American school contexts.

Can my school purchase this for our team?

Yes. We offer team pricing (5+ staff) and school site licences for unlimited staff.

Is there a certificate?

Yes. Upon completion, you receive a certificate of completion that documents your CPD hours in Positive Behaviour Support.

How is this different from Team Teach, BILD training, or other UK-based courses?

Team Teach and BILD qualifications focus primarily on physical intervention and restrictive practice frameworks. This course focuses on proactive, preventive strategies — understanding why behaviour happens and what you can do before a crisis occurs. It complements (rather than replaces) physical intervention training.
